Ranum Asylcenter

We are delighted to welcome RA Kajol back to Ranum in week 25 - for a series of workshops bringing together children, young people, and adults through a shared exploration of colour, pattern, and public space.

Known for transforming everyday environments through collective creativity, his work invites participants to see familiar places differently — not simply as routes we move through, but as spaces shaped by the people who use them.

Drawing on more than three decades of experience in mural and street painting traditions from Bangladesh, Kajol have been creating work across the world that connects communities through making, conversation, and collaboration. Last year, together with local residents, he transformed a neighbourhood ball court in Ranum. This year, the project turns its attention to the pathways and public routes that connect the asylum centre with the wider town.

Through workshops and collective interventions, participants will explore how these shared spaces carry stories, encounters, and memories. Together, they will consider how art can reveal new meanings in the places we pass through every day, and how creativity can strengthen connections between people and place.

At the heart of the project is a simple belief: public space belongs to everyone. Through colour, imagination, and participation, it can become a site for dialogue, belonging, and new ways of seeing one another.
